Chelmsford Nature Reserve surrounds the Ntshingwayo Dam. Chelmsford features the largest populations of the rare oribi in South Africa.
Game reserve with game viewing, fishing & watersports
Chelmsford Game Reserve is situated on the Ngagane River in Northern KwaZulu Natal less than three hours drive from Gauteng.
It is the third largest dam in the KwaZulu Natal and is an excellent venue for swimming and relaxing in the sun as well enjoying various water sports, including water skiing, jet skiing, kit surfing, canoeing and boating.
Fresh water fishing is great fun in the area, with excellent opportunities to catch carp and scaly.
The game reserve offers excellent game viewing opportunities, with large herds of springbok, and red hartebeest, as well as significant population of the rate and elusive oribi antelope.
Visitors are free to walk or cycle anywhere within the game park as there are no dangerous animals.
A shop with bait, liquor, wood and other basic provisions is open daily.
Ample facilities for day visitors are available, including playgrounds and boat launching ramps.
Medical assistance, police and all other amenities are available at Newcastle, about 26 km away.
