Test Driving the Arts Programme
The Playhouse Company begins its Test Driving the Arts programme for the 2016/7 financial year with a grand opening featuring a performance from five groups.The groups who will be performing are Tswana Traditional Dance (Tswana dancers); Umlazi African Jinge (Umzansi dancers); Amazing Grace (Gospel); Amabhubesi Zulu Dancers (Indlamu dancers); and Champions (Amapansula).

The Playhouse Companyís Test Driving the Arts programme is designed to showcase arts practitioners in the fields of indigenous and popular cultural entertainment. Performance genres typically featured in the series include Maskandi, Gospel, Kwaito, Afro Reggae, Imfene, Pantsula, Hip Hop, and others. For the 2016/7 financial year, approximately 600 artists will benefit from this opportunity to perform and be paid for their performances.

The Test Drive series provides workers in Durbanís CBD with regular opportunities to enjoy free lunch-time performances close to their places of work. It also fulfils a valuable role for the performing arts community as it serves as a show case for artists to be scooped up by talent scouts on the lookout for quality acts.

The Playhouse Coffee Shop will be open for light meals and drinks during and after the performances.

We look at dance history and its evolution in South Africa. Dance crosses many social and cultural barriers and Important life lessons are discussed through dance storytelling, helping to motivate students to work hard and follow their dreams. Both students and teachers will benefit by gaining knowledge which will stimulate a deeper understanding for movement.

Silent Screams
The role of women in South African society is explored in this emotional journey through the lives of six characters, which also celebrates the heroines of the liberation movement, in particular, Winnie Mandela and Victoria Mxenge. Beginning with the first ever Womenís March of 1913, through to the 1956 March, and culminating with the recent Women's Total Shutdown, this contemporary play engages young and old on issues that continue to affect women. Sizwe's Triumph over Sumdanger
A controversial moving story amongst a group of school learners, and a teacher within the School premises. The scourge of bullying amongst learners, probing the fragile and making them becoming victims of the social ills affecting learners nowadays, which are substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and most importantly bullying. Sizwe is the main victim of bullying in the school, victimised by Sumdanger, a cruel and rebellious young school boy who preys on other learners. Sizwe regains his triumph after being physically abused and bullied, he is able to stand out for himself after a long fight, by being able to face the challenge and regaining his victory in the right way, with the assistance of other victims like him.
